as soon as i found out that it was a legit S&M i knew 15 was a steal haha, im pretty pumped i bought it cause now i can get a trails bike running and one that i know isnt gunna break easy...thanks for the help and info i appreicate it...ill load some pics up when i get it fully finished

yes that is a DirtBike. SMD stands for "S" and "M" "D"irtbike. Being the number part of the serial starts in the 5-thousands it's probably around 1995-ish. they started making 1 1/8" threadless in '95 but they continued making 1" threaded too for a couple years after that(option). you can't go by 990 mounts being there or not for determining age neither cuz they made that version dirtbike both with and without(also an option) for a few years at least. your stickers on there are from around 2002...ones that came on the dirtBike classic i believe. if you had a S&M Holmes from the same era as yours the serial would be HXL**** ("H"olmes "X"tra "L"arge). the only differences between older holmes and dirtbikes from mid 90's is 1" of TT length and the serial. oh, i like to build a lotta mid-school S&M's BTW lol.

Thanks sandmslayer, I'll let my son know what you posted as he was using my sign on at the time of the post. Hopefully, since he is almost done with his Army National Guard training he will be able to finish rebuilding the bike so he can ride trails with his older brother when he's not racing!!
